A little about our schools...

Below is a little about St. Laurent Academy and JVC. The two schools have been working together for 2 years now.

St. Laurent Academy and Jean Vanier Catholic

St. Laurent Academy (www.st-laurentacademy.com) is a private grade school located across the street from the Macoun Marsh.  Jean Vanier Catholic Intermediate School (JVC) is a publicly funded school within the Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board and is located on Lajoie Street in Vanier.  For the JVC Environmental Club, it takes us about 25 minutes to walk to the Macoun Marsh.

Science and Nature as well as stewardship of our environment are both high proirities for both of our schools. The partnership we have formed is wonderful as it gives us all a chance to learn in a collaborative environment.  For the last three years, we have been sharing information about what we have seen at the Marsh. St. Laurent Academy students make it to the marsh a few times each week.  JVC students go occasionaly as part of their science class, while the JVC environmental club tries to visit the marsh on a weekly basis.  After these visits we make it a point to share these findings.

The two schools are now planning to present this project during the next United Nation's TUNZA Youth Conference in Norway (June 2008).
